Hollyoaks Trailer- Q.1 of Evaluation

In this trailer there are a lot of fades to black to create tension. I decided to mimic this in my own soap trailer to again create tension, and to also target my audience because I know that this is what attracts the audience and draws them in to view the soap. Transitions are not very common to find in soaps but to  challenge and develop conventions, like Hollyoaks does, I decided to use them within my trailer.

Billboard Background- Shushana Brennan

Shushana, who was in my filming group, created this billboard for our group to use. She was unable to put the text onto the billboard because she knew that we had all called our soap different things, and that we had all used conventions from different channels.

This allowed me to be able to develop the billboard and make it conventional to the rest of my products, and make it suit my targeted audience.

Jack Kane create this drawn plan for the magazine cover. He did this so that he knew himself where things were going to go on the final product, whilst me and Kris Thomas did research for the cover.

Magazine Cover Mock Up

Just like my previous magazine mock up, I did the same for TV & Satellite Week. I thought it was important to do this to show the planning and preparation for the final ancillary product. Also, by doing this, it helped us visually picture a student's version of the magazine cover, and what we could expect for our final product, but with more time spent on the product.

TV&Satellite week

When I looked at 'TV & Satellite week', I knew that this was the correct magazine for my soap trailer. This magazine cover looks higher up the social class ladder than the other magazines I looked at which suited the characters and my soap perfectly.

After looking at the stereotypical trashy magazines, I decided to create a mock up. I realised that this was not the correct magazine for my soap trailer because my soap was a more modern and high class soap. I had to research further to find the correct magazine cover.

I looked at trashy soap magazines such as 'TV WEEK' which have timings of all soaps and programmes. I thought I would look at these types of magazines because I know that they are popular with their audiences so I thought it would be beneficial for me to look at their conventions as to how they target their audiences and attract them into buying the magazine.

The Day of Filming

When the day came to film, it was unfortunate that I had been ill during the week. It was a flaw that we were also using my house for the filming, but I had managed to carry on with the filming as planned because I didn't want to let the other members of my group down.
The weather was perfect for the shots, except for the wind which was a bit too gusty, making it very loud on the camera. We didn't let this faze us, however, because we knew that we could edit the sound in iMovie when it came to putting the trailer together.
Although I wasn't feeling well through the day, it was a success for us as a team because we shot all of our footage which meant we didn't have to worry about continuity. We all enjoyed the filming to our full potential and tried to put as much effort in as we could because we all knew we had to use the footage to create our products.

3rd storyline – break up
Geoff – What, you’re just going to leave like this?
Bianca – that’s the plan Geoff
Geoff – how can you do this to me?
Bianca – You saw it coming Geoff, don’t lie
Geoff – what, saw you just walking out on me? After everything?
Bianca – Look I’m sorry Geoff, but it’s just not going to work
Geoff – but why?
Bianca – I just don’t feel the same anymore
Geoff – so this is it, you’re just going to walk out...
Bianca – Im sorry Geoff I really am, but it’s over
Geoff – There’s another man isn’t there
Bianca – Not exactly.

Script- Paul and Kayleigh storyline (Kris Thomas)

Kelly (Druggy) – Look... I’m sorry paul I can’t get you the money
Paul – You’re going to get me that money... and soon
Kelly – I can’t! You’ve got to believe me I have tried
Paul – well obviously not tried hard enough, Look you owe me that money one way or another... and one way or another I’m going to get it.
Kelly – and what if I can’t get it?
Paul – well you wouldn’t want your family finding out that you’re just a little low life druggy, would you?
Kelly – no, You can’t!
Paul – But I would... Unless you get me that money Kelly...
Kelly – Paul I’ve tried, I can’t just GET that much money...
Paul – Well you’d better find a way Kelly... be inventive, but be quick about it... the clocks ticking.
